R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that
  is estimated to affect 1 in every 36 children in the United States;
  and
         WHEREAS, Individuals living with autism may experience
  challenges with communication and social interaction, and other
  characteristics of autism spectrum disorder include repetitive
  activities and behaviors, resistance to changes in environment and
  daily routines, and sensory processing difficulties; and
         WHEREAS, Although the underlying causes of autism are complex
  and not yet fully understood, individuals with autism can benefit
  greatly from early diagnosis, intervention, and appropriate
  education, which can help them transition to greater independence
  in later life; and
         WHEREAS, El Paso is home to many organizations that are
  dedicated to raising public awareness about autism and rallying
  support for those individuals and families who are affected; these
  organizations include Angel's Mission, which works to promote
  inclusion and to empower the families of people with autism and
  other disabilities, and PdN Children's, which offers a variety of
  programs designed to help children with autism, language delays,
  and other developmental challenges to reach their full potential;
  and
         WHEREAS, Autism Acceptance Month is taking place in April,
  and this observance serves as a fitting opportunity to celebrate
  the strengths and contributions made by individuals with autism and
  to honor those who are working toward a future where all
  neurodivergent people are valued and accepted; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby recognize Angel's Mission and PdN Children's on the occasion
  of Autism Acceptance Month and extend heartfelt best wishes to all
  those who are striving to make El Paso a more inclusive place for
  persons with autism.
