A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to reports regarding county jail prisoners confined in |
|
|
out-of-state jails. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 511, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 511.01055 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 511.01055. REPORTS REGARDING PRISONERS CONFINED IN |
|
|
OUT-OF-STATE JAILS. (a) Not later than February 1 of each year, |
|
|
each county jail shall submit to the commission a report regarding |
|
|
the confinement of prisoners in out-of-state jails during the |
|
|
preceding calendar year due to overcrowding in the county jail. The |
|
|
report must include: |
|
|
(1) the total number of prisoners confined in |
|
|
out-of-state jails; and |
|
|
(2) the total number of prisoners who died while |
|
|
confined in out-of-state jails. |
|
|
(b) The commission shall prescribe a form for the report |
|
|
required by Subsection (a). |
|
|
(c) Not later than March 1 of each year, the commission |
|
|
shall submit a report summarizing the information submitted under |
|
|
Subsection (a) for the preceding calendar year to the governor, the |
|
|
lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, |
|
|
and each standing committee of the legislature with primary |
|
|
jurisdiction over the commission. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
