SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 245
|
|
WHEREAS, U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez |
|
Jr. retired as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M |
|
University on January 1, 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional |
|
tenure with the institution; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Joe Ramirez earned a physical |
|
education degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University, where he was |
|
a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets; |
|
he later obtained a master's degree in management from Webster |
|
University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the |
|
U.S. Army War College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez distinguished himself during a |
|
military career of 31 years; he held leadership positions |
|
worldwide in joint and operational commands, and he served as |
|
deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Central Command during |
|
Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; moreover, he was |
|
the deputy division commander for the 2nd Infantry Division in |
|
the Republic of Korea and a deputy director for the United States |
|
European Command in Germany; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2010, General Ramirez returned to Texas A&M as |
|
the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself |
|
to mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets |
|
the values of discipline, honor, and service, and under his |
|
direction, the Corps experienced its most significant growth |
|
since the early 1970s; in 2021, he was appointed vice president |
|
for student affairs, and in that role, he continued to positively |
|
impact the lives of students and his colleagues; and |
|
WHEREAS, Civically engaged, General Ramirez belongs to the |
|
boards of such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the |
|
Brazos Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, |
|
and the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement |
|
will afford him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife, |
|
Theresa, and their five children, four stepchildren, and eight |
|
grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Ramirez's dedication, experience, and |
|
commitment to excellence have greatly benefited Texas A&M |
|
University and the military community, and he may indeed take |
|
pride in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the |
|
next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General |
|
(Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez Jr. on his retirement as vice president for |
|
student affairs at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for General Ramirez as an expression of high regard from |
|
the Texas Senate. |
