A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to certain requirements regarding the subsidized
  child-care program administered by the Texas Workforce Commission.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 302, Labor Code, is
  amended by adding Section 302.0048 to read as follows:
         Sec. 302.0048.  SUBSIDIZED CHILD-CARE PROGRAM; RULES. (a)
  For the purposes of determining an individual's eligibility for
  subsidized child care, the commission:
               (1)  shall include the following courses or programs as
  approved educational programs and job training:
                     (A)  general educational development (GED) test
  preparation courses or programs;
                     (B)  adult education programs provided under the
  adult high school charter school program under Subchapter G,
  Chapter 12, Education Code;
                     (C)  English as a second language (ESL) courses or
  programs;
                     (D)  job training programs; and
                     (E)  any other courses or programs at an
  accredited postsecondary educational institution, including a
  public or private junior college, a public or private institution
  of higher education, or a public or private technical institution
  or at a career school or college as defined by Section 132.001,
  Education Code, regardless of whether the individual earns academic
  credit for the course or program; and
               (2)  may not require an individual who is a member of a
  single-parent household to complete more than 20 hours of combined
  work and attendance at a job training or educational program each
  week.
         (b)  The commission may adopt rules necessary to administer
  this section.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
