CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, El Paso has long been known for its rich cultural |
|
|
heritage, dynamic economy, and distinctive traditions, and it has |
|
|
gained a global reputation as a center for boot making; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The city is home to iconic boot manufacturers such |
|
|
as Lucchese, Rocketbuster, Caboots, and Tony Lama, along with a |
|
|
host of other renowned businesses that have contributed to |
|
|
El Paso's growing influence as a leader in producing premier |
|
|
Western footwear; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, El Paso's array of boot makers includes multiple |
|
|
companies that have been in operation for more than a century, and |
|
|
the craftspeople who power the industry have proven their mastery |
|
|
of techniques that have been passed down for generations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to producing products of exceptional |
|
|
quality, these businesses fuel the local economy, create jobs, and |
|
|
attract visitors from around the world to witness the handiwork of |
|
|
the city's artisans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through their dedication to the preservation and |
|
|
promotion of their trade, the boot makers of El Paso have elevated |
|
|
the craft and furthered the cultural and artistic identity of the |
|
|
Lone Star State, and the city's role in promoting the continued |
|
|
vitality of this time-honored and uniquely Texan tradition is |
|
|
indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby designate El Paso as the official Boot Capital of Texas; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|
|
391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|
|
until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|
|
passed by the legislature. |
