R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
|
a close when Felix Derwyn Cook of Houston passed away on February |
|
|
21, 2011, at the age of 59; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born on March 7, 1951, to Felix Lopez Cook and Opal |
|
|
Augusta Ross Cook, Mr. Cook attended public school in the Bayou City |
|
|
and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School; he received a |
|
|
bachelor of business administration degree in management from Texas |
|
|
A&M University--Kingsville; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his 27-year career with |
|
|
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Felix Cook set a standard of |
|
|
excellence in the workplace, forged many friendships with his |
|
|
colleagues, and took pride in his role as systems administrator for |
|
|
the creation of the E-911 database because of its potential to save |
|
|
lives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cook's strong faith sustained him through the |
|
|
years, beginning with his childhood affiliation with Trinity |
|
|
Gardens First Baptist Church; kind and caring, this generous |
|
|
individual actively supported charities such as Bread of Life, |
|
|
which he led as president; he also served as president of the |
|
|
Houston Chapter of NETWORK; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of |
|
|
one man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on |
|
|
the world as they move through it, and Felix Cook was indeed one |
|
|
such person; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Felix Derwyn Cook |
|
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
|
wife of 36 years, Jeri Lyn Cook; to his daughter, Cassye DomiNique |
|
|
Cook; to his stepdaughter, Shannon Dione Grigsby; to his father, |
|
|
Felix Cook; to his mother-in-law, Winnie Mauryne Grigsby; to his |
|
|
step-grandson, Nicolas Spenser Grigsby; to his brother, Dwayne |
|
|
Butler Cook; to his sister, Alecia Davis; and to his other relatives |
|
|
and many friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Felix Cook. |
