A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to voluntary deductions from the wages or salaries of |
|
|
deputy sheriffs for contributions to political committees. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 155.001, Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) In addition to a payroll deduction authorized under |
|
|
Subsection (a), a commissioners court, on the request of a deputy |
|
|
sheriff employed by the county, shall authorize a payroll deduction |
|
|
to be made from the deputy's wages or salary for contributions to a |
|
|
specified general-purpose committee. A payroll deduction made |
|
|
under this subsection shall be transferred directly to the |
|
|
committee. In this subsection, "general-purpose committee" has the |
|
|
meaning assigned by Section 251.001, Election Code. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
